WHITE SHARK CAFÉ
The White Shark Cafe is located in the northeast between Hawaii and Baja California in the Pacific Ocean and is an area of seasonal aggregation for adult great white sharks (Carcharodon carcharias). The White Shark Cafe exists entirely in international waters, with sharks coming from the coastal wintering areas of central California, Mexico’s Guadalupe Island, and Hawaii every December. For several years it was unknown as to what drew thousands of great whites to the area, and what explained the odd behavior of diving into deep waters during the day, and then back up to the surface at night. Then scientists discovered in 2018 that these waters hold a vast amount of light-sensitive marine animals, making this area a vital feeding and (possibly a) mating ground for this vulnerable species.
